Alpine walk
Ramsau am Dachstein, 2 hours, 4 km, 201 vertical meters
From the Hotel Türlwand first along trail no. 6 and then slightly downhill, across alpine meadows without much difference in altitude through the larch forest to the Austriahütte. From the hut, it takes 10 minutes to Brandriedel. From Brandriedel back to the Austriahütte, then down to the Brandalm with the mountaineering memorial and the Dachsteinkircherl, along the wide 5-Hütten trail back to the Türlwand.
Styrian Bodensee
Lake Bodensee is a jewel in the heart of the region. The ideal starting point for hikes of all kinds: from family hikes around the lake to leisurely mountain tours. Those who prefer a more leisurely approach can take in the mountains around Lake Bodensee on a rowing boat tour.
Walking times from the parking lot:
15 min flat footpath to Lake Bodensee – suitable for baby carriages

1.5 hours Waterfall trail with a circular trail around the lake

Hopsiland on the Planai
Planai, 1,5km
The pram-friendly circular trail is 1.5 km long and starts at the Planai cable car mountain station. Along the way, slides, swings, climbing elements, ball tracks, a water world with a pond, and much more provide variety – you can experience all this in the middle of the beautiful natural landscape. A visit to Hopsiland is a must on your family vacation!
Fairytale trail
Rohrmoos, 2 hours, 4.3 km, 156 vertical meters
A circular trail for the whole family with numerous fairytale stations where a wide variety of play equipment awaits young visitors. The beautiful meadow and forest path is well signposted and has only slight inclines and downhill sections, the path is suitable for baby carriages.
National Geographic hiking trail “Wild Waters”
Schladming-Untertal, 4 hours, 330 vertical meters
Family-friendly hike, starting from the Kraiter parking lot in Schladming and passing 14 adventure stations and 5 huts to the Riesach waterfall.
Sattelberg
Ramsau am Dachstein, 3 hours, 4.3 km, 225 vertical meters
The Sattelberg is Austria’s first nature and environmental adventure trail and is not only exciting and interesting for children, but parents, and grandparents will also be amazed.
Part of the trail is also suitable for baby carriages.
Alpine trail “through the Höll” to the Riesachsee
Rohrmoos-Untertal, 2:00 hours, 3.9 km, 296 vertical meters
Starting from the Seeleiten parking lot in Untertal, this alpine trail leads to the Riesach waterfall, the highest waterfall in Styria.
Set up close to the water, with many well-secured steps and ladders, you follow the fast, wild water.
A special experience is the 50-meter-long rope suspension bridge.
The forest path takes you down into the valley.
Duisitzkarsee
Rohrmoos-Obertal, 3:00 hours, 5.4 km, 480 vertical meters
The Duisitzkarsee is a picturesquely situated mountain lake – a natural gem – in the Rohrmoos Obertal valley. A fantastic mountain landscape in the Schladminger Tauern picturesquely surrounds the mountain lake. Starting from the Eschachboden, the hiking trail leads upwards, steeply in places.
A circular hike variant would be: Eschachalm – Neualm – Duisitzkarsee – Eschachalm
Giglachsee
Ursprungalm, 3.30 hours, 9.6 km, 350 vertical meters
The two Giglachseen lakes lie at the foot of the Lungauer and Steirische Kalkspitze peaks.
The easy hike from the Ursprungalm to the Giglachseen lakes is beautiful.
You can still find traces of the miners in the former mining area.
Moaralmsee
Haus im Ennstal, 3:30 hours, 7.8 km, 403 vertical meters
From the Tauern cable car mountain station, the route leads to the summit of the Hauser Kaibling and over the Rossfeldsattel to the turquoise Moaralmsee. This lies in magnificent high mountain scenery at the foot of the Höchstein. Take the same route back to the Rossfeldsattel, then return to the mountain station via the Kaiblingalm. There are various hiking options.
Silberkar Gorge
Ramsau am Dachstein, 2:30 hours, 4.8 km, 517 vertical meters
Waterfalls, vertical rock faces, and a wildly romantic gorge. Hike to the Silberkarhütte or the circular hiking trail gorge – Silberkarhütte – Höhenweg (forest and root path) – starting point.
Spiegelsee on the Reiteralm
Reiteralm, 1:40 hours, 4.2 km, 284 vertical meters
The most popular photo motif in the Schladming-Dachstein region. The Dachstein massif is reflected in the middle Gasselsee (as the lake is called) on windless days.
Variants: Reiteralm Höhen circular trail (approx. +2h) or via the Untersee (approx. +30min)
Bärfallspitze
Hauser Kaibling, 4 hours, 7.3 km, 500 meters ascent and descent
From the cable car mountain station, the trail leads along the Schafsinn circular trail to the Rossfeldsattel. From there, you can reach the Bärfallspitze in around 45 minutes and enjoy the wonderful panoramic view of the valley. The descent takes you to the Kaiblingalm and from there, you return to the mountain station via a leisurely forest path.
Krahbergzinken
Planai mountain station, 2.30 hours, 5.5 km, 380 m ascent and descent
Follow the Planai panoramic circular trail to the crossroads at the Krahbergsattel. From there, behind the mountain station of the Mitterhaus cable car through the forest and then in somewhat steeper serpentines to the large Steinmandl. From there it’s just a few more hairpin bends to the summit. The transition from the pre-summit to the summit cross requires caution – but is well-secured.
Jungfrauensteig
Ramsau am Dachstein, 4 hours, 8 km, 737 m ascent and descent
A steep climb leads from Gasthaus Edelbrunn up to the “Steinerne Jungfrauen” – bizarre rock formations made of conglomerate rock – and on to Postkastl. The trail turns at the rocks below the Gamsfeld and returns to the starting point via Brandriedel or Brandalm.
High trail Hochwurzen – Giglachseen – Ursprungalm
Hochwurzen, approx. 7.5 hours, 13.46 km, ascent 821 vertical meters, descent 1,072 vertical meters
This popular tour in the Schladminger Tauern leads from the Hochwurzen via the Guschen, Hochfeld, and Schiedeck peaks to the Brettersee lake and the Giglachseen lakes. After the final descent, take the hiking bus from the Ursprungalm back to the starting point.
Around the Styrian Kalkspitze
Ursprungalm, 5.30 hours, 10.3 km, 923 m ascent and descent
From the Ursprungalm, the ascent leads to the Giglachseen lakes and on to the Akarscharte. From here you have the option of hiking to the Steirische or Lungauer Kalkspitze (additional walking time approx. 1 hour each). From the Akarscharte you hike approx. 500 meters downhill to the Oberhüttensee. The trail then climbs steeply again through Brotrinnl before descending to Ursprungalm.
Walk around the “Tor”
Ramsau, 4:30 hours, 13.2 km, 1076 vertical meters
Starting from the Neustattalm, head to the Maralmboden and the Bachlalm. From there, the ascent to the “Tor” begins, partly over scree fields. On the Pernerweg trail, the trail descends steeply for a short time, and at the foot of the Dachstein south face, you hike to the Südwandhütte. Continue to the valley station of the glacier lift and back to the starting point.
Hochwildstelle 2,747 m – highest, purely Styrian summit
Seewigtal, 8:00 hours, 14.83 km, 1630 vertical meters
Starting from the Steirischer Bodensee, past the Hans-Wödl-Hütte and the Hüttensee and Obersee lakes, you hike via the Neualmscharte and Kleine Wildstelle to the summit. Descent as ascent or via the Preintalerhütte to the Riesachsee and into the Untertal.
Höchstein 2,543 m
Hauser Kaibling, 5:00 hours, 11 km, 850 vertical meters
From the Tauern cable car mountain station via the summit of Hauser Kaibling. Summit ascent: via Seeschartl, Kaiblinglochscharte, Kaltenbachschulter, and Westgrat – steep, partly secured by ropes.
Descent: Filzscharte – Hans-Wödl-Hütte – Steirischer Bodensee
Kings stage
Ramsau, 7:30 hours, 14.6 km, 1470 vertical meters
The tour starts from a choice of several starting points via the Lärchbodenalm to the Guttenberghaus, along the Stein, and via the Silberkarhütte to the Fliegenpilz back down into the valley.
King’s Tour Klafferkessel
Rohrmoos-Untertal, approx. 10 hours, 21.3 km, ascent and descent 1,579 vertical meters
Starting from Almgasthaus Riesachfall, you hike to Gollinghütte, then steeply uphill to Greifenberg (2,618m). The first section is a steep descent over brittle terrain into the basin. Mosses, lichens, lakes, and rocks create the impression of a primeval landscape. Continue to the Preintalerhütte, then down and along the Riesachsee to the final descent; this leads along the forest path to the starting point.
